Back to School Made Easy!

The weather begins to cool down, the days become a little shorter, and most nights are filled with the sound of cicadas and it typically means that it is back to school time. The beginning of the school year can be exciting, nerve-wracking, and all together scary if you don’t know what to expect. Here are some ways to get your family’s school year off to a great start!

This may seem like a no-brainer, but keep bed time consistent. This will help your child get the rest they need to endure the whole school day. Those first few weeks take a lot of energy out of the kids, so ensuring they get enough rest is extremely important.

If your child is bringing lunch from home, find a time to have them help make their own lunch! Meal times can be stressful, especially in a new setting. If your child remembers that they have a lunch that they enjoy, it will be helpful to break up the day. Additionally, it creates some peace of mind for you as a parent knowing they will fuel their body with something they like.

Lastly, make drop off easier by allowing a few extra minutes.  If you are rushing, a meltdown is much more likely.  If your child needs you to walk them to the door or get out of the car for a hug, do it!  It might cost you a minute, but it might be just what they need to have a successful day!

Starting school can be a big transition for children and parents! If you’re feeling some nerves leading up to this new school year, try these tips out and give yourself and your child a little grace. It will be great! Have a fantastic year!
